The honest and righteous captain of the palace guard. He has been demoted among the royal court for opposing the Queen Regent. Concerned for the best interests of Vermund, he offers his cooperation to the Arisen.
Story
Captain Brant leads the palace guard in Vernworth, though his stand against Queen Regent Disa has left him with little standing at court. With an impostor already seated on the throne as Sovran, Brant offers the Arisen his help and sets out to prove that the Arisen is the genuine one.
His first task, Monster Culling, sends the Arisen to aid his soldiers in three places: clearing goblins out of Trevo Mine, helping the men sent against the saurians at Harve Village, and finding the soldiers escorting freight on the eastern edge of the kingdom. The work earns the Arisen a name across the realm.
In The Stolen Throne, Brant provides the Eventide Mask and suggests attending one of the nobles' masquerades to get a look at the false Sovran. Hearing the Arisen's report, he decides the pretender is a hired puppet with no knowledge of the Queen Regent's designs, and resolves to look into Lord Phaesus instead.
An Unsettling Encounter has Brant send the Arisen into the castle by night to search the rooms of Minister Allard, with a guard under his orders waiting to guide the way in. The Battahli-Crested Letter recovered there mentions securing Melve and the godsway. Brant explains that relations with Battahl amount to little more than old bloodshed, promises to dig further, and asks the Arisen to make for Melve. Talking to him again afterwards begins Feast of Deception.
Relationships
The Queen Regent's son, Sven, becomes an ally of both Brant and the Arisen, and it is Sven who first notices the secret delivery made to Allard.
Brant also has a part in Every Rose Has Its Thorn, where Wilhelmina seeks proof of Allard's crimes. At the inn he can hint at where the second piece of evidence lies. Shown both pieces, he agrees to help, and later covers the Arisen's escape even though he is unhappy with the part the Arisen played in Allard's killing.
Location
Brant spends his nights at the bar of The Stardrop Inn, where his main quests are taken up and reported back on. During the day he is usually at The Guardhouse, where the Arisen first meets him. Carried from the Guardhouse to the inn, he offers the same conversation he would at night.
Gifts
Brant likes Interesting items and Fancy items. Interesting items cover weapons, armour and monster parts such as bones, while Fancy items are costly goods bought from merchants, such as rings and curatives. Gifts of either kind raise his affinity, as does completing his quests.
Notes
Fruit Wine can be stolen from him. During The Caged Magistrate he hands the Arisen the Gaol Key, which can open a cell in the castle gaol if the Arisen is locked up before the key goes back to him.
