Vocation |
The Daughter of the Evening is the best Shield early for the Fighter vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2. It also has a unique hidden effect that allows you to turn certain monsters to stone.
A shield polished to a mirror sheen. Reflects the faces and baleful powers of foes back upon them, that they might know their own horror.
Secret Shield Effect
The description of the Daughter of the Evening shield eludes to a secret interaction that the shield has against the Medusia Boss, when she uses her baleful eye, which normally turns onlookers to stone, the shield can be used to reflect her powers back onto herself, instaltly turning her to stone and concluding the boss fight.
This gameplay mechanic is an easter egg reference to Greek mythology and the story of Perseus's using the reflection of his shield to find Medusa and slay her without looking at her directly.
How to get the Daughter of the Evening Shield Guide
To get the Daughter of the Evening Shield Early you must unlock the Vernworth Castle Vault. This can be done right at the start of the game by following the video/written guide below:
Written Guide
- Step 1: After reaching the city of Vernworth take the Ox Cart from the north eastern gate of the city for 200 gold. This will take you to the Checkpoint Rest Town in western Vermund.
- Step 2: Head north out of town through the cave and down into the rocky canyon towards the Ancient Battleground.
- Step 3: Once you reach the Ancient Battleground you will see a ballista infront of you, head left up the side of the cliff and walk along to the castle. Enter the castle through the large arch and work your way through the inner chambers, inside you will find a black and gold treasure chest with the Makeshift Vault Key within it. It's located in the same room as the old tomb Oskar is looking for.
- Step 4: Return to Vernworth Castle and go to the Vault located in the basement of the palace underneath the kitchens.
- Step 5: If their's a guard standing outside the Castle Vault you can pass him by simply waiting until the change of the guards, which happens at sunrise or sunset. Alterntively it is possible to throw a barrel from the kitchen at the guard, causing him to run at you. The guard can then be picked up and carried to the kitchen, you can then reach the door without being stopped.
- Step 6: Use the Makeshift Vault Key to open the Vault door. Inside you will find 20,000 gold, Wyrmhunter's Cloak, Daughter of the Evening Shield, Decayed Medusa Head and Ring of Reassurance
