The Rueful Axe can be found in The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, it is possible to miss obtaining the weapon if the wrong choices are made during the quest to obtain it. While the Rueful Axe may seem like an incredibly powerful Two-handed daedric weapon that can be obtained at level 1, it actually is not very powerful unique weapon due to its very slow attack speed.

Originally the weapon was given to Sebastian Lort, who had begged the daedric prince Clavicus Vile to help him cure his daughter of Lycanthropy.

How to Get the Rueful Axe Location

Where to find the Rueful Axe Location?

To get the unique Daedric Artifact, the Rueful Axe in Skyrim, you must start the daedric quest, "A Daedra's Best Friend." However it is possible to miss the Rueful Axe if you choose the wrong options in the quest, as described in the video above.

The quest can be started once the Dragonborn reaches level 10.

Serach for the dog Barbas on the Road near Falkreath, in the south west of Skyrim. If you have trouble finding him just talk to one of Lod the towns Blacksmith.
Engage in a conversation with the talking dog Barbus.
Accompany Barbas on the journey to the Clavicus Vile shrine in Haemar's Shame.
Obtain the Rueful Axe in the company of Barbas.
Go back to the Clavicus Vile shrine alongside Barbas, bringing the Rueful Axe with you.
Decide to either present the Rueful Axe to Clavicus Vile or use it to eliminate Barbas

If you choose to eliminate Barbas with the Rueful Axe you will be able to keep the unique axe as a reward (note: the axe does not count towards the Oblivion Walker achievement progress). Alterntively if you refuse to eliminate Barbas you will receive the arguably more useful Masque of Clavicus Vile as a reward instead.

Gameplay Tips and Tricks

Since you can get the Rueful battleaxe at level 1 in Skyrim, it can be considered a powerful weapon early on. But it actually swings slower and does 1 less base damage than an Elven Warhammer which can also be obtained at level 1 in Skyrim. So it won't serve much use in combat beyond being a cool looking display item.
The Rueful Axe has the slowest swing speed in the entire game.
The unique axe is embellished with two howling wolfs on the side off the axe head. Since the Rueful Axe was originally given to Sebastian Lort, who had begged the daedric prince Clavicus Vile to help him cure his daughter of Lycanthropy. Its howling wolf motif may be a cruel jest from Clavicus Vile, hinting at Sebastian's daughters true fate.

Weapon Levels

Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.

The Rueful Axe is not a leveled weapon.
