Trollsbane is a unique steel warhammer with 20 base damage that burns trolls. It lies on the corpse of Frofnir Trollsbane in a troll den between Cradle Stone Tower and Valthume, and can be taken at any level.
Weapon Enchantment
Each hit on a troll burns it for 15 points of fire damage. The fire affects trolls alone.

Trollsbane is improved at a grindstone with one Steel Ingot per improvement. The Steel Smithing perk doubles the improvement, so each quality tier needs less Smithing skill. An enchanted copy can only be improved with the Arcane Blacksmith perk.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
Trollsbane has the same damage at every character level.

How It Plays
Trollsbane is found at a grim scene. Two trolls fight over the body of Frofnir Trollsbane in a cave near Cradle Stone Tower, and their roaring can often be heard from outside. Finish off the troll that wins, then loot all the bodies.
Trollsbane is a specialist's hammer. Against most enemies, it fights like a plain Steel Warhammer. Against trolls, it becomes one of the best weapons in the game. It is the only weapon in Skyrim made to deal extra damage to trolls.
Trolls heal themselves very quickly, so a slow fight often goes nowhere. Fire is the classic answer. It hurts trolls more than other damage, and it also slows their healing for a time. Every blow from Trollsbane adds that fire, so the troll cannot simply heal through a series of hits.
The fire works on every kind of troll. Frost trolls on the mountain paths, including the one on the climb to High Hrothgar, take the burn too. Keep up steady pressure, since stepping back gives the troll time to heal.
Compared with Other Warhammers
Trollsbane sits low among the unique warhammers for raw damage. Volendrung, The Longhammer and Aegisbane all serve better in everyday fights. Trollsbane's place is as a second weapon, swapped in when a troll appears.
The steel body makes it easy to improve. A Smithing build can temper it early with common Steel Ingots.
