Lockpicking opens locked doors, containers and some traps without their keys in Skyrim. Its tree has eleven perks costing exactly eleven points, since none of them has more than one rank.
The Tree Is Half Difficulty, Half Reward
Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert and Master Locks each make one lock tier easier. The other six perks change what picking gets you rather than how hard it is: Treasure Hunter improves the loot inside, Golden Touch adds gold, Locksmith and Unbreakable reduce broken picks, and Wax Key gives you the key itself.
Quick Hands is the one most stealth characters take first, because it allows picking without being noticed.
Skill Is Not The Only Factor
Lock difficulty sets the size of the sweet spot, but the skill level widens it. A high enough skill makes even master locks openable by feel, and Unbreakable removes the failure state entirely.
Perks By Purpose
Eleven perks, one point each.
| Purpose | Perks |
|---|---|
| Lock difficulty | Novice through Master Locks |
| Fewer broken picks | Locksmith, Unbreakable |
| Better rewards | Treasure Hunter, Golden Touch |
| Stealth | Quick Hands |
| Keeps the key | Wax Key |
