An Unfortunate Turn of Events is a treasure hunt in Velen. It starts at Lovers' Landing, an old ferry landing on the shore south of the Devil's Pit. A dead ferryman there carries a letter he never sent. In it, he confesses that a case he was carrying fell into the river.

- Travel to Lovers' Landing, south of the Devil's Pit.
- Search the shoreline for the corpse near the wrecked boats.
- Loot the unsent letter from the body.
- Read the letter.
- Swim out to the search area in the river.
- Kill the drowners.
- Find the cargo that fell off the ferryman's boat with Witcher Senses.
- Loot the chest to finish the hunt.
