The Dwarven Document Dilemma is a secondary quest in Novigrad. It starts on the road south of the Southern Gate, where the dwarf Rostan Muggs asks for urgent help. He claims a thief attacked him and ran off with some important papers. The truth turns out to be quite different.
The Dwarven Document Dilemma Map Location and Quest Guide
The Dwarven Document Dilemma map location:
- Talk to Rostan Muggs on the road south of the Southern Gate signpost.
- Cross the bridge to the spot where Muggs says he was attacked.
- Examine the spot with Witcher Senses and find a bottle of moonshine.
- Follow the trail to Gerd, who sits outside the inn.
- Talk to Gerd and hear his side of the story.
- Get the documents: win a fistfight, beat Gerd at gwent, or use Axii.
- Return to Muggs and compare the two accounts.
- Hand the title to property to Muggs and collect the reward.

Choices
Gerd says Muggs lost the papers to him in a game of cards. Geralt can demand the papers, which leads to a fistfight. He can also beat Gerd at gwent or use Axii on him. Asking to buy the papers gets a refusal. A failed attempt leaves the other options open. The fistfight can only be tried once, but the gwent match can be played until Geralt wins.
Geralt can also leave and confront Muggs first. Muggs then confesses that the papers belong to his employer. He lost them in a drunken game of gwent. The quest only ends once Geralt brings the papers back.
