Starfield:Difficulty

Starfield has 5 difficulty settings ranging from Very Easy to Very Hard gameplay. Changing the difficulty level affects the damage you deal and drop chance of legendary weapons and armor sets as outlined in the table below. While Very Hard difficulty increases the drop chance of Legendary weapons and armor is only 1% and so it’s arguably not worth it.

XP Gain

It’s a common misconception that the difficulty setting effects how much experience you get for defeating enemies in Starfield, but this is incorrect.

You will get the same XP for defeating a level 50 enemies on Very Easy as you would for defeating them on Very Hard. Note that the higher the level of the enemies you defeat the more experience you will get. So, if you turn down the difficulty to Very Easy and go to a level 75+ system in Starfield you will be able to level up faster because the enemies reward more experience for being defeated. If you are playing on Very Easy you can also dispatch the enemies faster to level up faster.

Starfield Achievements

None of Starfields achievements are affected by what difficulty you play on, so feel free to play on any difficulty you want to. Achievements can only be disabled by using certain console commands or installing PC mods and Xbox Mods for Starfield.

Starfield Survival Mode

While Starfield does not have a survival mode at launch like Fallout 4, it may be added later as a DLC like in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda Games Studio director Todd Howard has discussed in interviews that Starfield’s survival elements such as elemental effects were substantially reduced before launch because they were considered too hardcore. Since these features were in place previously we may see them return in a DLC update for Starfield Survival Mode in the future.
