Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom. It serves as a sequel to the original Dragon’s Dogma released in 2012. The game launched on March 22, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

Capcom followed the launch with two major title updates in 2026: the first, on June 10, added the reusable Eternal Ferrystone for fast travel along with other quality-of-life changes, and the second, at the end of August, improved frame rates and added save slots. The Dark Arisen expansion arrives on October 9, 2026, opening Norgan, a frozen northern region of Vermund abandoned long ago, where the Arisen joins the enigmatic Eir. It is sold as DLC on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam, and bundled with the base game in the series' first Nintendo Switch 2 release. By November 2025 the game had sold 4 million copies.

In this immersive fantasy world, players assume the role of the Arisen, a hero marked by a dragon. Their primary objective is to defeat this formidable dragon while navigating a richly detailed open world.

Gameplay

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, combat is exhilarating and dynamic. You wield swords, bows, and magic, engaging in battles that require both skill and strategy. The game encourages creativity, allowing you to climb on massive foes, target weak points, and unleash devastating attacks. Whether you’re facing a towering cyclops or a swarm of goblins, the combat feels intense and satisfying. It is played from a third-person perspective, and travel is deliberately slow: fast travel comes only from ferrystones and oxcarts, so most roads are walked, and nights are spent at campsites along the way.

Vocations

Vocations define your character’s role and abilities. You start by choosing from Fighter, Archer, Mage or Thief. Each vocation offers a distinct playstyle. Fighters excel in close combat, Mages wield powerful spells, Archers strike from range and Thieves are quick and nimble. As you progress, you unlock the advanced Warrior and Sorcerer and four hybrid vocations, Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Trickster and Warfarer, which only the Arisen can take up. Using a vocation ranks it up and unlocks new skills and augments. Experimenting with different vocations adds depth to your gameplay experience.

Pawns

Pawns are enigmatic companions who aid you on your journey. These AI-controlled allies fight alongside you, share knowledge, and offer tactical advice. You create one main Pawn of your own, and can hire two more, made by other players, from the Rift. Customize their appearance, assign roles (such as healer or tank), and develop their skills. Pawns learn from battles and adapt to your playstyle. Their interactions and insights enrich the single-player adventure. Keep an eye on them for Dragonsplague, an illness a Pawn can catch from a drake or dragon: it shows as glowing red eyes, and left untreated the Pawn can turn on the town you sleep in.

Character Creation

Before embarking on your quest, craft your Arisen, the hero of the story. The character creator allows detailed customization, from facial features to body proportions. Want a battle-hardened warrior or an elegant mage? The choice is yours. You can play as a human or a beastren, and the same creator shapes your main Pawn. Whether you’re a scarred veteran or a fresh-faced adventurer, your journey begins with your unique creation.

Immersive World

The game world is vast, diverse, and teeming with secrets. Explore lush forests, treacherous mountains, and ancient ruins. Discover hidden caves, encounter mythical creatures, and unravel the mysteries of the land. NPCs have their routines, day-night cycles affect gameplay, and weather conditions impact battles. The attention to detail immerses you in a living, breathing realm. The map is roughly four times the size of the first game’s, split between the human kingdom of Vermund, ruled from Vernworth, and Battahl, home of the catlike beastren.

Monsters

Dragon’s Dogma 2 boasts an array of formidable foes. From fire-breathing dragons to eerie wraiths, each monster presents a distinct challenge. Some creatures have specific weaknesses: target a griffin’s wings to ground it, or exploit a cyclops’s eye vulnerability. The thrill lies in adapting your tactics to overcome these mythical adversaries. Plus, encountering massive beasts while exploring adds an element of awe and danger. Night changes the roster too: after dark you meet different creatures, and stronger ones.

Characters

Beyond combat and exploration, Dragon’s Dogma 2 introduces you to a diverse ensemble. Meet merchants, knights, sorcerers, and quirky villagers. Engage in conversations, accept quests, and forge alliances. NPCs have their backstories, motivations, and unique quests. Whether aiding a lovelorn bard or investigating a haunted forest, your interactions shape the world. The richness of character interactions makes the game feel alive. The story opens with you taken for a pretender to the title of Arisen, and Brant, captain of the palace guard in Vernworth, is among the first to believe otherwise.
