Holger Blackhand is the dour-faced jarl of Faroe in Skellige. He is known as a brutal pirate and raider. In the quest A Hallowed Horn, Geralt recovers an heirloom stolen from him.
Lore
Holger owes his nickname to the dark color of his hand and forearm. The mark comes from frostbite he suffered in a freak autumn blizzard, when his longship struck a boulder under the water.
In Skellige, raiding and plunder are almost a rite of passage. Even so, the islanders think Holger especially brutal. He attacks the villages and ships of rival Skellige clans as boldly as he raids the coasts of Cidaris, Novigrad and Nilfgaard.
Story
Holger has stolen many priceless goods on his raids. None of them means as much to him as a carved horn handed down from his ancestors. Some warriors he recently banished took the horn to get back at him. Holger then promised a large reward to whoever finds it.
In A Hallowed Horn, Geralt learns of the theft from a notice on the board in Kaer Muire, or he stumbles on the horn by chance. He tracks the thieves to their camp, defeats them and recovers the horn. He then returns it to Holger's envoy in Holmstein. The envoy is saddened to hear what became of the thieves, but he pays the full reward.
