Vserad was the lord of Velen, who ruled much of the region from Crow's Perch. He fled to a tower on Fyke Isle and died there. His fate lies at the heart of the secondary quest A Towerful of Mice.

When news came that the Nilfgaardian army was near, nobles of every rank packed up their silver and fled. They left their lands at the mercy of the invaders. Lord Vserad was no different. He fled with his family and court to shelter in a tower on Fyke Isle.

He did not find the safety he sought. A massacre took place in the tower, and Vserad was killed. His death gave rise to many grim rumors and legends.

Story

In A Towerful of Mice, Geralt learns of the curse that has fallen on Fyke Isle and its tower. Vserad had moved his court there about half a year before. While famine raged all around, he lived in excess and cared nothing for his starving people. The tale says the gods cursed him for it. A horde of mice swarmed into the tower and devoured everyone inside: Vserad, his court and his mage, Alexander.

Another rumor claims that Vserad had his mage poison starving peasants who came to beg for food. Given the desperate state of the land, the tale sounded believable.

The truth turns out to be much simpler. Vserad's own former subjects murdered him. They were driven by greed, envy and the plain stupidity that is all too common among people.
