Riftstones

Riftstones are gateways to the Rift, the realm that pawns cross on their way between worlds. At a riftstone the Arisen hires and dismisses pawns, sets pawn quests and recalls a forfeit main pawn. Riftstones stand in settlements across the land, and more lie out in the wilds.

Hiring Pawns

Touching a riftstone carries the Arisen into the Rift, where pawns from other worlds wander. Pawns at or below the Arisen's level join for free. A pawn of a higher level costs rift crystals, and the price climbs with the gap between the two levels. The riftstones in settlements offer the fullest search, with filters such as vocation, inclination and quest knowledge. Official pawns can be summoned there as well.

Support Pawns

Hired pawns join the party as support pawns. Each one keeps the level it had when hired, so the Arisen swaps in stronger pawns as the adventure goes on. Wandering pawns met out in the world can also be hired on the spot by speaking to them. When dismissing a support pawn, the Arisen can rate it and send it home with a gift for its master. Any items it was carrying go into the Arisen's storage.

Forfeit Main Pawn

A main pawn that becomes forfeit returns to the party as soon as the Arisen touches any riftstone.

Pawn Quests

Riftstones are also where the Arisen sets a pawn quest, a task for the main pawn to complete in other worlds. Setting one earns the achievement Wish upon the Rift.

Grand Riftstones

The grand riftstones are the Grand Riftstone of Vermund, the Grand Riftstone of Battahl and the Grand Riftstone of the Shrine. The Grand Riftstone of Vermund stands inside the Vernworth Pawn Guild.

Settlement Riftstones

The other named riftstones are the Borderwatch Riftstone, Melve Riftstone, Border Checkpoint Riftstone, Nameless Riftstone, Arborheart Riftstone, Moonglint Tower Riftstone, Agamen Ruins Riftstone and Volcanic Island Riftstone. The Borderwatch Riftstone is the first one the Arisen reaches, and the main pawn is created there. The Arborheart Riftstone stands in Sacred Arbor.

Forgotten Riftstones

Forgotten Riftstones lie away from the settlements. Activating one for the first time rewards rift crystals. Many of the riftstones in the wilds summon only one kind of pawn, such as pawns of a single inclination.
