The Bow of Shadows is an artefact of Nocturnal, forged for assassins and carried through Morrowind before arriving in Skyrim. At 19 base damage it is one of the strongest bows in the game, and the invisibility it grants makes it the obvious choice for a stealth archer.
Weapon Enchantment
Draw speed is 20 per cent faster, and the bow casts invisibility for 30 seconds. Together those let you fire, vanish and reposition without a single potion or spell.
Where to Find the Bow of Shadows
- The In the Shadows quest begins by speaking to the Jarl's Steward in Dragonsreach, Whiterun.
- The quest concerns an assassination plot against the Jarl, and the bow is the reward.
Smithing Guide
Tempering takes an Ebony Ingot and the Arcane Blacksmith perk. No material perk doubles the improvement on this one.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
