Creation Club was Bethesda's in-game store for Skyrim Special Edition, selling small official add-ons called Creations. It entered beta on 28 September 2017, launched properly on 4 October 2017, and was retired on 5 December 2023.
The distinction that mattered to players was simple: Creations are official Bethesda content, built with contracted developers and mod authors, so installing them does not disable achievements. Ordinary mods do.
How It Worked
Creations were bought with Creation Club Credits, a virtual currency purchased in packs rather than paid for directly per item. Individual Creations ranged from 50 credits for a small armour set up to 500 for something the size of Survival Mode.
Seventy-four Creations were released in total, and every one of them is included in the Anniversary Edition. Special Edition and Switch owners who never bought anything still received four of them free: Fishing, Rare Curios, Survival Mode and Saints and Seducers. Creation Club was never available for Skyrim VR.
Since the shutdown, the Verified Creator Program has taken its place. The difference is not cosmetic: Verified Creator content is classed as third-party mods rather than official content.
What It Added For Smiths
A large share of the Creations were the Alternative Armors line, sets drawn from The Elder Scrolls: Blades. Most are unlocked by a short quest rather than bought outright at a forge, and each one attaches to an existing perk rather than adding a new branch to the Smithing tree.
- Vigil and Silver sets, unlocked through Unholy Vigil, require Steel Smithing.
- Elven Hunter, from Once a Hunter, requires Elven Smithing.
- Amber equipment requires Glass Smithing.
- Madness equipment requires Ebony Smithing.
- Dark and Golden Daedric variants require Daedric Smithing.
Creation Club also introduced two daggers stronger than the Blade of Woe, which had held the top slot for base damage since release.
