Hattori is a master swordsmith who lives in the Glory Lane district of Novigrad. When Geralt meets him, he has left the forge and sells dumplings instead. Geralt helps him return to his trade in the secondary quest Of Swords and Dumplings.
Lore
Hattori was once a famous master swordsmith. Over time he could no longer get the supplies his forge needed. He gave up his craft and opened a dumpling shop at his home.
Story
Geralt asks several smiths who could make master swords. They all send him to Hattori. Hattori agrees to forge again if Geralt helps him get supplies. They meet the men of the King of Beggars at the docks after dusk. There, Tinboy offers the supplies, and Geralt helps settle the price. Then men from Cleaver's gang ambush them. Hattori panics and runs off.
Back at home, Hattori refuses to work without a bodyguard. He names Sukrus, a pirate from Skellige. Hattori owes Sukrus money. Sukrus agrees to help after Geralt deals with his brother-in-law, a merchant who owes him a debt.
Hattori still needs more supplies. He suggests borrowing them from the warehouse of Ernst van Hoorn. Geralt marks the crates for Sukrus and his men. Van Hoorn and his thugs then attack, and Geralt defeats them. If Geralt leaves the fight, the quest fails and Hattori's forge stays closed for good.
With van Hoorn gone, Cleaver loses interest in swordsmiths. Hattori can work in peace again. He becomes a master blacksmith who forges mastercrafted weapons. As thanks, he makes Geralt the sword Blade from the Bits.
Relationships
Sukrus becomes Hattori's bodyguard, even though Hattori owes him money. Ernst van Hoorn keeps the supplies Hattori needs in his warehouse.
