The Bootblack is a young shoeshine boy who works the streets of Beauclair in Toussaint. Geralt never learns his name. The boy helps Geralt and Regis track down the vampire Dettlaff in the quest Where Children Toil, Toys Waste Away.

Lore

The bootblack is a charming young rascal with a real flair for business. That flair sometimes gets him into trouble. He spilled his wastewater in front of a nearby shop every day to muddy more boots and win more customers.

Story

In Where Children Toil, Toys Waste Away, Geralt drinks a potion called Resonance and sees a vision of Dettlaff talking to a young bootblack. Geralt and Regis set off to find the boy at his stall in Beauclair. They arrive to find a group of workers from the shop about to give him a thorough beating. Geralt wins the fistfight, and the city guards take the attackers away.

The boy is tough and stubborn. He sees how badly Geralt and Regis want news of Dettlaff and makes them pay for it. He tells them that Dettlaff brought his boots for cleaning several times. Each time, Dettlaff asked the boy to return them to the door of an old, abandoned shop. The trail leads Geralt and Regis to Dettlaff's hideout above an abandoned toy shop.

Geralt can also invest some coin in the bootblack's business. The boy uses the money to improve his stall and buy new equipment, and business booms.

Later, Geralt and Regis look into a fifth letter naming a victim of the Beast. They return to the bootblack once more. He explains how the letters with the victims' names reached Dettlaff and points them to a poorhouse.

Relationships

Geralt takes a real liking to this enterprising boy. Dettlaff was one of his regular customers.
