DLC Blood and Wine

Pinastri is a hermit who lives alone in a hut in the Toussaint countryside. An invisible specter is tormenting her, and she fears it will be her end. Geralt meets her in Blood and Wine, in the witcher contract Equine Phantoms.

Story

Pinastri tells Geralt that something unseen is tormenting her. Geralt doubts the story at first. He cannot imagine how to fight something he cannot see. Her suffering is plain, though, so he agrees to help. Pinastri has no money to pay him, only potatoes. Geralt can take the potatoes or work for free.

Geralt searches her hut. He finds dead moths outside, graytop on her table, and a bloody pillow on her bed. A trail of blood leads out through the window. To track the specter, Pinastri gives Geralt a brew made from graytop. The brew has a strange side effect: Geralt can now understand his horse, Roach.

Geralt and Roach follow a ghostly horse to Mont Crane Cemetery. There the spirit of a knight appears at a grave. He was Pinastri's former lover. In a fit of anger, he once beat his own horse to death. Pinastri has refused to forgive him for the deed, so he cannot rest.

Pinastri still will not forgive him. If Roach forgives the knight on behalf of the dead horse, the story ends happily. If Roach refuses too, Geralt defeats the knight's spirit. Geralt believes this is only for a time. Sooner or later, the specter will come back to demand forgiveness from the hermit.

Relationships

The knight who haunts her was once her lover. She has never forgiven him for killing his horse.
