Vivienne de Tabris is a lady-in-waiting to Duchess Anna Henrietta of Toussaint. She hides a curse that turns her into a bird. Geralt uncovers her secret in Blood and Wine, in the secondary quest The Warble of a Smitten Knight.
Lore
Vivienne is a quiet, secretive and distant woman. Her beauty fascinates men all the same. Before she was even born, she was struck by a powerful curse. Whenever the moon is out, she turns into a bird.
Story
The young knight Guillaume de Launfal is in love with Vivienne. He suspects that she may be under an evil spell, and he asks Geralt to find out. To get close to her, Geralt has to enter the knights' tourney, where Vivienne acts as patroness. When Geralt first meets her, his medallion hums. Vivienne says her perfume was made by a sorceress.
Geralt searches her tent and later follows her into the woods. At a forest glade, she takes him for an assassin sent to kill her. Instead, Geralt learns her secret and offers to lift the curse. He warns her that this will not be simple. The curse could be passed to someone else, but Vivienne refuses to let anyone carry it. It could also be removed with the help of an oriole egg. That ritual might leave her only a few years to live, about as long as an oriole lives.
Geralt must then decide whether to tell Guillaume. If he does, Guillaume offers to take the curse himself. Vivienne trusts his good intentions and agrees. The ritual works, and the curse passes to Guillaume in a much weaker form. He grows feathers in odd places, but he does not mind, and Vivienne is rather fond of them. When Geralt meets the couple later, they are happy and in love.
If Geralt keeps her secret, Vivienne sends Guillaume away. She and Geralt perform the egg ritual together, and the curse is lifted. Vivienne feels free for the first time in her life. She sets out to see the world and make the most of the years she has left.
If the vampires attack Beauclair before the quest is done, Geralt never learns what secret she hides.
Relationships
Guillaume de Launfal loves her and is willing to bear her curse. Anna Henrietta is the duchess she serves.
