Guillaume de Launfal is a young knight errant of Toussaint. He is the very model of a Toussaint knight, brave, romantic and always in trouble. Geralt meets him on his first day in the duchy and later helps him in the quest The Warble of a Smitten Knight.
Story
In The Beast of Toussaint, Geralt rides into the duchy with Milton and Palmerin. On the road, he sees Guillaume charging at a windmill. The windmill turns out to hide a ferocious giant named Golyat, and Geralt helps bring the giant down. The second time they meet, Guillaume enters the tourney arena to fight a shaelmaar. The beast nearly rips him to shreds, and Geralt has to step in and save him. Wounded but grateful, Guillaume asks Geralt to meet him about an urgent matter.
In The Warble of a Smitten Knight, Geralt visits Guillaume in the medics' tent at the Tourney Grounds. The urgent matter is an affair of the heart. Guillaume is in love with Vivienne de Tabris, the duchess's lady-in-waiting, but she stays cold and distant. He suspects a curse is to blame. To get close to Vivienne, Geralt takes the wounded knight's place in the tourney. Guillaume can train him first at the shooting range, the race track and the practice grounds.
Geralt learns that Vivienne has indeed been cursed since before her birth. Every night she turns into a bird. Geralt offers to lift the curse, and his choice decides Guillaume's fate.
If Geralt tells Guillaume the truth, the young knight offers to take the curse upon himself. A ritual moves the curse from Vivienne to Guillaume, and it seems much weaker once it passes to him. When Geralt meets the couple later in Beauclair, they are happy and in love. Guillaume has grown a few feathers on certain parts of his body, and Vivienne finds them rather flattering.
If Geralt keeps Vivienne's secret, he frees her with a different ritual that may shorten her life. Vivienne leaves to travel abroad and enjoy the time she has left. Guillaume feels rejected and drowns his sorrows in wine. Geralt tries to explain that no one can force love.
If Geralt never finishes the quest, he later finds Guillaume's body in Beauclair. The young knight died bravely, fighting the vampires to defend his city.
Relationships
Vivienne de Tabris is the woman Guillaume loves. Geralt is the witcher who saves him twice and then helps him with his heart.
