The Ebony Blade is one of the best Two-handed swords due to its extremely powerful and unlimited use absorb health enchantment that scales in damage from 10-30. This page includes a guide on how to charge the Ebony Blade fully and the best targets to kill.
The Ebony Blade is also one of the 17 Daedric Artifacts required for the Oblivion walker Achievement/Trophy in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Weapon Enchantment
The Ebony Blades unlimited enchantment increases in power from defeating allies and never needs to be recharged. Initially it starts with a 10-point Absorb Health enchantment but scales to 30 points.

How to Get the Ebony Blade?
Where to find the Ebony Blade Location?
To get the Ebony Blade location in Skyrim you must complete the quest The Whispering Door. The player must be level 20 before the quest can be started.
- First finish the quest "Dragon Rising" by investigating the dragon attack at the Western Watchtower outside Whiterun.
- Head to the Bannered Mare in Whiterun and converse with Hulda about rumours to start the quest "The Whispering Door."
- Ask about Balgruuf's strange children in Dragonreach
- Find out what's wrong with Nelkir
- Listen to the whispering door in Dragonreach's basement.
- Talk to Nelkir and he will tell you that Farengar Secret-Fire has the key to the whispering door.
- Obtain the key from Farengar by, pickpocketing it while he sleeps.
- Open the whispering door with the key.
- Retrieve the Ebony Blade.
It is possible to obtain the Ebony Blade early at level 1 by glitching through the Whispiering Door in Dragonreach's basement. But doing so will break the quest and stop you from ever dropping the Ebony Blade until the Whispering Door quest is completed in the future. In order to finish the quest you can place the ebony blade on a weapon rack and then pick it up to finish the objective to "retrieve the Ebony Blade" and complete the quest.
How to Empower the Ebony Blade Enchantment
The Ebony Blade starts with a 10-point Absorb Health ability, which gets stronger by defeating friendly characters. If you eliminate every two such characters, the Absorb Health ability increases by four points up to a maximum power of 30 points of Absorb Health. It requires 10 kills to reach full power.
Only 'allies' that trust you will count towards increasing the power of the Ebony Blade. Characters who say: "You've been a good friend to me, that means something" or "It's a fine day with you around" are considered to count towards enhancing the Ebony Blade.
The best Targets for the Ebony Blade
Instead of killing a potentially useful follower, you should instead target the following less essential characters in Skyrim that will be considered allies once you have finished their related quest, at this point they will count towards enhancing the Ebony Blades power.
- The Ebony Blade can be charged fully if you complete the quest The Forgemaster's Fingers which can be started at any Orc Stronhold. After the quest is finished the inhabitance of the Orc Stronhold will count as allies, if you kill all the miners and orc inhabitants within the strongholds it will charge the ebony blade fully.
- Alfhild Battle-Born can be slain after selling her vegetables.
- Pavo Attius and Gat gro-Shargakh after they pay you to clear the enemies within Kolskeggr Mine Mine.
- Many of the Farmers and woodcutters around Skyrim who you can sell firewood, mined ore, or crops via a dialogue option (not the barter menu) will become friendly after you have sold them enough goods, at this point they can be killed to charge the sword.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
The Ebony Blade is not a leveled weapon.
