Steel Ingot is a smithing material in Skyrim, made at a smelter. One Corundum Ore and one Iron Ore smelt together into a single ingot, which is why corundum is worth more early than its own gear suggests.
Uses
Steel armour, Imperial armour, Nord Hero weapons, Ancient Nord gear, Wolf armour and Dawnguard gear all draw on it, which makes steel the busiest ingot in the first half of a playthrough.
Tempering consumes one ingot per item improved, so keeping a stock matters as much as having enough to forge with in the first place. Smelting grants no Smithing experience; only forging and tempering do.
