Heavy Armor governs how well you move and fight in the heavier armour sets in Skyrim. Each skill point adds 0.4 per cent to the armour rating those pieces give you.
Sets It Unlocks
Iron, Steel, Dwarven, Orcish, Ebony and Daedric are the base game's forgeable heavy sets, and the Smithing perks map onto them directly. Ancient Nord, Imperial and Dragonplate are also forgeable, as are Bonemold, Chitin heavy, Nordic carved and Stalhrim with the Dragonborn add-on.
A few heavy sets cannot be forged at all: Dawnguard heavy, Blades, Falmer and Wolf armour.
The Perks That Change How You Play
Conditioning removes the weight of heavy armour entirely, which matters more than the armour rating for most characters. Matching Set rewards wearing four pieces of the same type, and Fists of Steel turns gauntlets into a weapon.
