Temper it at a workbench with two Bone Meal. The Steel Smithing perk doubles the improvement.
Forge it with the Steel Smithing perk from 10 Bone Meal, 2 Netch Leather and 1 Iron Ingot.
Its 32 armor edges out the 31 of Steel Armor, and it weighs 1 less.
Four matching Bonemold pieces count as a matched set for the Matching Set perk, which adds 25% armor.
