Contract: The Mystery of the Byways Murders is a witcher contract in Velen. A Nilfgaardian patrol has gone missing near the village of Byways, and the local commander, Milan Noran, suspects a monster. The villagers had dug into an ancient elven mine for treasure. There they woke an ekimmara, a nasty kind of vampire, which then killed the patrol.

- Take the contract from the notice board in Oreton.
- Talk to Milan Noran, the commander of the Nilfgaardian patrol.
- Travel to Byways and find out what happened there.
- Kill the ghouls prowling the village.
- Find the surviving villagers.
- Explore the village with Witcher Senses.
- Follow the scent of blood with Witcher Senses.
- Explore the tunnels under Byways with Witcher Senses.
- Find and kill the ekimmara.
- Take a trophy from the ekimmara.
- Talk to Bytomir.
- Report back to Milan Noran.

Choices
The surviving villagers are clearly hiding something. Geralt can back off and report to Milan without looking further. Milan still pays for news of the patrol.
Geralt can also press the villagers to learn the whole story. If Geralt kills the ekimmara and keeps his paid contract to himself, the villagers pay him a reward as well. If he tells them someone else is paying him, the villagers refuse to pay.
