Sarasti is an unusually dangerous Ekimmara, one of the Vampires. It lives in the old elven tunnels under the village of Byways, in Velen. Villagers digging for treasure woke it from a deep sleep. It is the target of Contract: The Mystery of the Byways Murders.

Lore

Raiders of elven tombs either get rich quickly or die trying. The crumbling temples and palaces of the Aen Seidhe hold priceless treasures. Many foul monsters also sleep deep inside them. The villagers of Byways learned this the hard way. A few of them turned self-taught treasure hunters and dug into the elven ruins under their village.

In one chamber, they found a beast asleep. Bytomir of Velen later told the story. "We dug out a chamber. There was a beast sleeping inside. We fell over the props to collapse the ceiling, but it must not have buried the monster..." The cave-in did not stop it. The enraged vampire killed several peasants. It then killed a patrol of heavily armed Nilfgaardian soldiers as they passed through Byways. The list of victims would surely have grown longer if a witcher had not come to town.

Like all vampires, ekimmaras are not undead humans, whatever village gossip says. They are monsters that came into the world after the Conjunction of the Spheres. Garlic, holy water and religious symbols mean nothing to them. They look nothing like the pale, handsome aristocrats of ballads. Like katakans, they look like overgrown bats.

Behaviour

Ekimmaras are unusually cruel and very swift. They do not bite their victims gently on the neck. They tear them apart with long, sharp claws and then lap the spilled blood off the ground. Sarasti makes its lair in the tunnels beneath Byways.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Vampire Oil. Igni burns the vampire, and Devil's Puffball poisons it. The Yrden and Quen Signs both help to overcome its strengths.

Sarasti is no easy kill. It heals itself quickly, and its blows cause heavy bleeding. It can land strike after strike, hard enough to smash even the best Mahakaman armor into pieces. It can also vanish into thin air. Never try to tire it out or wait for it to bleed to death, because its health keeps coming back. Strike with heavy blows and cut it down as quickly as possible. If possible, burn the body to ash afterwards and scatter it to the four winds.

Sarasti Map Location and Quest Guide

Take the contract from the notice board in Oreton, in Velen.
Talk to the commander of the Nilfgaardian patrol.
Travel to Byways and kill the ghouls prowling the village.
Find the surviving villagers and press them for the truth.
Explore the village with Witcher Senses and follow the scent of blood.
Explore the tunnels under Byways with Witcher Senses.
Kill the ekimmara and take a trophy from it.
Talk to Bytomir, then report back to the Nilfgaardian commander.

Sarasti is hunted in Contract: The Mystery of the Byways Murders, in Velen. The notice hangs on the board in Oreton. A Nilfgaardian patrol has gone missing near Byways, and its commander, Milan Noran, offers the bounty.

Byways is overrun by ghouls. Once they are dead, the surviving villagers come out of hiding. Telling them the witcher is simply nosy keeps them talking. Witcher Senses reveal clues in the village and a scent of blood. The trail leads to the tunnels under Byways and the ekimmara's lair.

Killing Sarasti earns the steel sword Bloed Aedd, an Ekimmara Trophy and the Fearless Vampire Slayer achievement. Bytomir and the villagers pay for the kill, and Milan Noran pays for news of his patrol. The truth about the patrol can also be reported to Milan Noran with the vampire left alive.
