Skjall is a young warrior from the village of Lofoten on Hindarsfjall, in Skellige. He and his family care for the wounded Ciri, and he helps her flee the Wild Hunt. The villagers later brand him a coward and call him Craven. Geralt and Yennefer search for him during the quest Nameless.
Story
In The Calm Before the Storm, Skjall is gathering crabs by the sea when Ciri falls out of thin air. A mysterious companion carries her, exhausted and wounded, and leaves her in Skjall's care. Skjall takes her home, where his family tends to her with warmth and kindness. For the first time in a long while, Ciri has a moment to rest.
The moment does not last. The Wild Hunt finds Ciri's trail and rides on the village. Ciri knows she is in no shape to fight them. Skjall decides to help her, and he puts his own life and honor at risk. He rides with her to Drowned Dead Rock, where her masked companion waits. From a distance, Skjall sees the two argue. The man ends the quarrel by putting Ciri to sleep with a spell, then sails off with her into the fog. The Hunt wounds Skjall and leaves him for dead.
In helping Ciri, Skjall gives up the thing Skelligers hold most dear: his honor. Accused of cowardice, he must perform a heroic deed to clear his name. He goes to face the monster in Freya's garden and fails. Mortally wounded, he hides in an underground chamber and dies a slow, painful and lonely death. In Nameless, Geralt tracks his footsteps and finds the body there. Yennefer then raises the dead man, and his reanimated corpse tells them of Ciri's stay on Hindarsfjall.
Ciri cannot bring Skjall back or clear his unfairly stained name. In Skjall's Grave, she gives him a proper burial. Skellige legend holds that his soul now feasts with his ancestors in the Heavenly Feast Hall, where the mead never runs dry and the ballads never end.
Relationships
Ciri owes Skjall her escape, and she honors him with a proper burial. His family took her in on Hindarsfjall.
