Dawnfang and Duskfang are the same sword. It is an Akaviri blade forged by the Tsaesci, and it changes form with the sky: Dawnfang by day, Duskfang by night. The switch is not cosmetic. Each form carries a different element, so the weapon covers both halves of a fire and frost resistance problem without you swapping anything.
Weapon Enchantment
By day it deals 7 points of fire damage. By night it deals 7 points of frost damage instead. Kill twelve creatures with it and it also begins absorbing 5 points of health or magicka per hit, which is what turns it from a curiosity into a weapon worth carrying.
Where to Find the Dawnfang and Duskfang
- The quest A Soul Divided leads to the Guardian Vault in the Ratway beneath Riften.
- The sword is claimed there. Reading a note during the same quest starts the chain that leads to Bloodthirst, its counterpart.
Smithing Guide
It is not a Daedric weapon, but it is treated as Daedric quality, so the Daedric Smithing perk is what doubles its improvement. Tempering it needs the Arcane Blacksmith perk, because the weapon is enchanted. The material perk below doubles what each improvement is worth.
| Tempering Material | Perk |
|---|---|
| Ebony Ingot | Daedric Smithing |
Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
