A Flametal Ore Vein is a column of Flametal Ore rising from the lava of the Ashlands on the back of a Lavaiathan. You mine it with a Black Metal Pickaxe or better, but the Lavaiathan can sink at any hit and take the rest of the ore with it.
Where to Find It
The game makes up to 100 attempts to spawn a Lavaiathan in each world, in the Ashlands at altitudes of 10 to 1,000 m. They are placed when the world is generated and are gone for good once they sink. Many stand out in the lava, and you need Basalt Bombs or a tamed Asksvin to reach them. Some lie close enough to land that you can mine them from the shore.
What's Inside
Every vein is the same spire of 27 nodes. Each node has 100 health and tool tier 3, and only pickaxe damage hurts it. Every hit on a node has a 1% chance to disturb the Lavaiathan, which makes a noise. Twenty seconds later it starts to sink for good. It first rises a little, then speeds up to about 0.6 m a second, slows again after about 50 seconds and is fully under within 75 seconds. Any nodes you have not mined go down with it.
Loot
| Location | Name | Image | Amount | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ore Node | Flametal Ore | 2-4 | 100% |
Notes
- A fully mined vein drops about 82 Flametal Ore.
- The Black Metal Pickaxe deals 49 to 64 damage, so a node takes three hits at quality 1 and two at higher qualities. With the forsaken power of The Elder, which adds 60% pickaxe damage, it deals 78 to 102, and a quality 4 pickaxe breaks a node in one hit.
- A Battering Ram deals 600 pickaxe damage over a small area and is strong enough to break these nodes, so it can smash several of them at once.
