The Ashlands are a crescent island at the far south of the world, past a sea that boils. Expect black and orange rock, scorched trees, open lava fields and ash falling from the sky 81% of the time. Everything here burns, including your base.
Locations
The Ashlands always sit at the southern end of the world. The water around them boils and destroys a wooden hull outright, with the damage at its maximum from 300 m in. Only the Drakkar survives the crossing, and you need The Queen dead before you can build it.
| Location | Image | What's Inside |
|---|---|---|
| Charred Fortress | Twenty per world, each marked by a green beam. Break the wall to reach the bell altar, the gem chests and a 50% Fader vegvisir. | |
| Charred Ruins | Cathedral-like grausten shells wrapped in ashvine. The best vineberry farm in the biome. | |
| Putrid Hole | A cave of rotting flesh with one morgen, molten cores and, one time in four, the vegvisir that starts the Dyrnwyn hunt. | |
| Flametal Vein | A spire in a lava lake, standing on a living lavaiathan. About 82 ore per vein, and every hit risks sinking it for good. | |
| Sulfur Arch | A black arch with orange flecks. Roughly twenty sulfur hangs underneath it. | |
| Monument of Torment | A charred spawner, usually hidden inside a rock formation. It never stops until you break it. | |
| Fader's Altar | A coliseum. Three bells, made from nine fragments, summon him. |
Boss
Fader is summoned at the Altar of the Emerald Flame with 3 bells. Each bell is made from three bell fragments taken from the bell altar inside a Charred Fortress, so you need nine fragments in all. He has 25,000 health, calls down meteors and roars to bring Charred Warriors and Marksmen to fight beside him.
He drops Fader Relics, which build the Eternal Pyre. The pyre is the only way to get Embers, and Embers gate the whole Deep North. His power gives 50% fire resistance and doubles adrenaline gain.

Hazards
- Cinder rain sets fire to anything wooden it lands on, and the fire spreads between buildings. A Shield Generator is the answer.
- The sea boils. A swimmer dies in under half a minute, and any hull except the Drakkar goes down with them.
- Lava deals true damage: it kills through any resistance in a second or two, and you keep burning after you climb out.
- Charred spawners never stop, and the monuments hide inside rock formations.
- A Skugg is a bone ballista on each corner of a fortress, firing 120 damage bolts at 40 m.
Lore
The runestones here tell one continuous tragedy about the King of the Emerald Flame, a Winter Child, and a kingdom that rose, turned tyrant and burned itself down. One of them is only two lines: "War is a fire / And men are fuel."
The Charred are what is left of the people caught in a drake's fire: flames for flesh, and agony in every moment. Fader is that drake, and his verse reads "A father noble and proud, he soared through skies of fire. Then madness lowered its shroud, and warped his heart's desire." Ulf managed one line here: "Most things are on fire and the fishing is not good."
Notes
- Land on the coast and build a beachhead first, because encounter rates inland are much higher.
- A portal stone built with Molten Cores teleports metal, which matters more here than anywhere, because Flametal does not go through an ordinary portal.
- Flametal is finite. Every hit on a vein has a small chance to sink the Lavaiathan carrying it, and that vein never comes back.
- A tamed Asksvin walks on lava, which is the cheap way to reach a vein in the middle of a lake.
- Most creatures here damage each other, so pulling a Morgen into a Charred patrol is a real tactic.
- Clear large rocks when you spawnproof, because the Monuments of Torment hide inside them.
