The Writhan is a rare, aggressive mob of the Swamp that explodes shortly after it dies. It has 400 health and belongs to the undead faction.

Behaviour

Its bite deals 40 pierce and 30 poison damage. When a Writhan dies, it bursts after a short delay for 60 blunt, 40 poison, 50 chop and 50 pickaxe damage in a six-metre radius. Once it drops to half its health or less, it can also blow itself up when its target is within six metres. That kills it and sets off the same explosion.

A one-star Writhan has 800 health and bites for 60 pierce and 45 poison. A two-star has 1,200 health and bites for 80 pierce and 60 poison. The explosion stays the same at every level.

Where to Find It

Writhans spawn alone, day and night, anywhere in the Swamp at altitudes from -2 to 10 and between 2,000 and 8,000 metres from the world centre. Only one is around at a time, and the spawn is rare.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Slash is its weakness. It resists blunt and fire, and it is immune to poison. Its stagger threshold is 50% of its health.

It takes extra damage from Slash.
It resists Blunt and Fire, taking half damage from both.
It is immune to Poison.

Notes

Every kill drops Writhan Roots: 1 from a plain Writhan, 2 from a one-star and 4 from a two-star. The Writhan Trophy drops one time in ten at every level.
Once you defeat a Writhan, the Bog Witch starts selling the Crown of Roots.
Writhan Roots are used in the Birds' Nest, the Lox Fur Hood and the Shield of Roots.
