Bosses
The Forsaken are the major bosses of Valheim. You summon each one deliberately at its own altar with a specific offering. Defeating a boss unlocks the next material tier and drops a unique trophy. Every boss before Kall Fimbulbringer also grants a permanent Forsaken power that you can activate for five minutes at a time.
Bosses Conclude The Chapter
Bosses are not random encounters. You find the altar (usually marked by a Vegvisir), gather the required offering and place it to start the fight. The boss stays until it is killed. It does not despawn, and you can summon it again later if you bring another offering.
Each boss drops a unique trophy. Take that trophy to the Sacrificial Stones at the centre of the world and hang it on the matching stone. Once the trophy is mounted, the matching Forsaken power becomes available. You can only have one power active at a time, and to switch you have to return to the stones and select a different trophy.
Forsaken powers last five minutes and share a 20-minute cooldown. When you activate a power, nearby players get the effect too.
The Forsaken Powers
- Eikthyr: 60 % less stamina used for running, jumping and swimming. The classic exploration power.
- The Elder: +60 % chop and pickaxe damage and +30 % health regeneration. Excellent for wood and ore runs.
- Bonemass: slight resistance to blunt, slash and pierce, free blocking, and stamina returned on block. The strongest defensive power for melee fights.
- Moder: a constant tailwind while sailing, +300 carry weight, +10 % movement speed and frost resistance. The travel and hauling power.
- Yagluth: +10 % to all damage, lightning resistance and a farming skill bonus. The offensive power.
- The Queen: +100 % eitr regeneration, free sneaking and poison resistance. Essential for magic builds.
- Fader: +100 % adrenaline gain, reduced stagger and fire resistance. The late-game combat power.
- Kall Fimbulbringer (Deep North): the final boss. He does not grant a standard Forsaken power the way the others do.
Progression and Key Drops
Each boss also drops the item that opens the next stage of the game:
- Eikthyr → Hard Antlers (Antler Pickaxe)
- The Elder → Swamp Key (Sunken Crypts / iron)
- Bonemass → Wishbone (finds buried silver)
- Moder → Dragon Tears (Artisan Table)
- Yagluth → Torn Spirits (helps with Mistlands progression)
- The Queen → access toward the Ashlands
- Fader → Embers from the eternal pyre, which open the Deep North
- Kall Fimbulbringer → the Crown Jewel for the Crown of Valheim, and Sacrificial Blood, which ends the game
Killing a boss also raises world difficulty and can change what spawns in biomes you have already visited.
Notes
- Bosses are immune to stagger, so you cannot stunlock them with a shield.
- You must hang the trophy at the Sacrificial Stones to unlock the power; leaving it in a chest does nothing.
- Altars are found, not built. Vegvisirs in dungeons and ruins mark their locations on your map.
- You can fight a boss as many times as you want, as long as you bring a fresh offering.
- Only one Forsaken power can be active at a time.
