Caleb Menge is the commander of the Temple Guard of the Church of the Eternal Fire in Novigrad. He also leads the city's witch hunters. Menge is cunning, ruthless and fanatically ambitious. Geralt first sees him during the quest Pyres of Novigrad and faces him in Count Reuven's Treasure.

Lore

---

In these days, persecution is everywhere in Novigrad, and the smoke of a hundred pyres chokes the air. This grim time gives cover to many bloody butchers. Their favorite tools are made-up plots, mass arrests and show trials that end in group executions.

Menge is one of these opportunists. His moment of triumph comes when he unmasks his superior, the former Temple Guard commander Chappelle, as a doppler in disguise. Under Menge's command, the Temple Guard acts as it pleases. He burns mages and dopplers in public.

Story

---

In Pyres of Novigrad, Geralt arrives in Hierarch Square as Menge burns Chappelle and the sorceress Felicia Cori at the stake. Geralt has no doubt that "fanatical whoreson" is far too mild a name for him. Soon after, at Triss's ransacked house, Menge makes it clear that witchers are not welcome in his city either.

In Count Reuven's Treasure, Menge's agents capture Dandelion. The paranoid executioner never leaves his fortified headquarters without a crowd of armed guards. Geralt and his friends try a risky plan to get inside and meet him face to face. Triss poses as Geralt's prisoner, and the witch hunters take her away for torture while Geralt talks with Menge. Up close, Menge only confirms how cruel he is. If Geralt keeps up the act and asks only for Dandelion's release, Triss kills Menge with her dagger. If Geralt fights the witch hunters or asks about the treasure, Menge dies by the witcher's blade.
