Triss Merigold of Maribor is a sorceress, a former mage advisor to King Foltest of Temeria and a famous hero of the Battle of Sodden. She is one of Geralt's closest companions and one of his two main romances. Geralt finds her hiding from the witch hunters in Novigrad in the quest Pyres of Novigrad. She later helps defend Ciri at Kaer Morhen.

Lore

Triss is an exceptionally talented sorceress, a shining star of her profession. She fought at the Battle of Sodden and became famous as the Fourteenth of the Hill. Yet she is nothing like many of her haughty fellow sorceresses. Her sharp mind, warm smile and great personal charm win over even the hardest hearts.

At one point Geralt found her charm impossible to resist. Since then the two have shared feelings that run far deeper than a passing fancy. Triss has always treated Ciri like a younger sister. When Geralt once turned up outside Kaer Morhen with no memory, Triss helped the witchers nurse him back to health. Their romance ended about half a year before the story begins.

Story

Yennefer tells Geralt that Triss now lives in the Free City of Novigrad. King Radovid has given the witch hunters a free hand, and they burn mages in public all over the city. Triss has gone into hiding and turned to the King of Beggars, one of the city's underworld bosses. She pays for his protection by working magic for his gang. Triss knows nothing of Ciri's time in Novigrad, but she promises to do all she can to help. She points Geralt to the dreamer Corinne Tilly.

Neither of them knows how to handle their old feelings. Triss pretends that nothing happened between them. Geralt hides his feelings behind a mix of hesitant interest and fake indifference. Later Triss offers Geralt a plan to get close to Caleb Menge, the leader of the witch hunters. The plan puts her in great danger. She knows Ciri's life may be at stake, so she does not hesitate for a moment.

Triss also wants to get her fellow mages out of Novigrad, and Geralt helps her. In the quest A Matter of Life and Death, the two visit the Vegelbud estate. If Geralt kisses her in the garden there, their old feelings come back to life. In Now or Never, Triss prepares to sail for Kovir with the mages. On the windswept docks of Novigrad the two say goodbye. If Geralt asks her to stay, Triss decides not to leave after all. She knows that he is opening his heart to her for the first time.

Triss comes to Kaer Morhen at Geralt's request to defend Ciri. During the battle she calls down fire on the Wild Hunt from the walls of the keep. After the battle, Triss and Yennefer travel to Novigrad to rebuild the Lodge of Sorceresses. Triss tracks down Philippa Eilhart, who has been trapped as an owl, and reaches her at Dijkstra's bathhouse with Geralt just in time.

If Geralt chooses Triss, the two settle in Kovir after the war. Triss works there as an advisor to the king, and Geralt takes the odd witcher contract.

Relationships

Triss and Geralt share deep feelings that never quite faded. Ciri is like a younger sister to her. Triss works with Yennefer to rebuild the Lodge. Keira Metz is a fellow sorceress who also once served King Foltest.
