In the Heart of the Woods is a witcher contract in the village of Fayrlund in Skellige. It begins at a funeral for a man mangled in the woods, said to be the work of the Woodland Spirit. The elders say the Spirit guards the village and is punishing it for a broken pact. The young men, led by Sven, call it a cruel brute that must die.

Choices
The Woodland Spirit is a leshen. It can bend animals, plants and even people to its will. Geralt must choose between Sven and Harald, the leader of the elders.
If Geralt sides with Sven, he hunts down and kills the leshen. For years the villagers worshipped it while it fed on their life force. While Geralt is away in the woods, Sven murders all the village elders. Geralt returns too late to stop the bloodshed. He takes his pay from Sven and leaves.
If Geralt sides with Harald, he renews the old pact with an offering at the altar. The leshen truly trains the villagers to be great hunters and warriors, though many die in its trials. The young men then rise up against the elders. Geralt can walk away before the fighting starts, or stay and defend Harald.
