Beasts

Beasts are the natural animals of the witcher world: Wolves, Dogs, Bears, Wild Boars and Panthers. Witchers fight them with the steel sword, the blade kept for people and ordinary animals. They coat it with Beast Oil.

The monsters that came with the Conjunction of the Spheres pushed Wolves into the deepest wilds. Even so, these old hunters are still a real danger. Wolves hunt in packs and kill careless travelers and hunters. Dogs that are badly treated or left to roam lose all respect for people. They develop a taste for blood and carrion, and they also attack in packs, picking out lone victims.

Other Beasts hunt alone. The Bear lives alone and eats berries, roots and salmon, but it kills any traveler who wanders into its territory. Bears roam the woods of White Orchard. Wild Boars live deep in the forest and carry sharp tusks. Panthers stalk the forests of Toussaint and prefer lively prey such as deer, or even humans.

Against a pack, the first rule is never to get surrounded. Keep moving and cut down one animal at a time. Quen absorbs a Bear's heavy blows. Yrden and Igni leave a Wild Boar open to a flurry of strikes.
