Premethine Shakeslock is a blind professor at the Oxenfurt Academy and an expert on black magic. He knows how Gaunter O'Dimm might be beaten. Geralt visits him in Hearts of Stone, in the main quest Whatsoever a Man Soweth...

Lore

---

Shakeslock spent years studying every form of black magic. Olgierd von Everec paid him well to search old books for accounts of Gaunter O'Dimm, also called Master Mirror. The professor spent long hours on the task. His research uncovered many secrets about O'Dimm, including a possible way to outsmart him.

The witch hunters decided his knowledge should serve only their own goals. They placed guards outside his home. Officially he remains a free man, but no one enters or leaves the house without their leave.

Story

---

Geralt is racking his brains for a way to defeat Master Mirror when Shani comes to his aid. She tells him about Shakeslock and leads him to the Academy. Geralt fights past the witch hunters and finds a way into the house over the rooftops.

By then, the professor is a tired and tormented wreck. He lives in fear of a demon and stays inside a runic circle drawn on his floor. He tells Geralt that O'Dimm can be cheated. A person only has to propose a wager, because O'Dimm is a hardened gambler and will likely accept.

During the talk, Shakeslock takes one step outside the circle and dies on the spot. No one will ever know whether the step was an accident or a choice. He may have seen death as a relief. His advice lives on, though. If Geralt stands up for Olgierd at the end, he proposes a wager to Master Mirror. Geralt then beats O'Dimm by solving his riddle.

Relationships

---

Olgierd von Everec hired him to search for a way out of the pact with O'Dimm. Shani knows of him and brings Geralt to his door.
