Olgierd von Everec is a nobleman and the ataman of a band of rough men who would follow him anywhere. He is immortal, thanks to a pact with Gaunter O'Dimm. Geralt meets him at the Garin estate when he takes Olgierd's contract on a sewer monster in the quest Evil's Soft First Touches.
Lore
Olgierd comes from the noble von Everec family. As young men, he and his younger brother Vlodimir led a band of noble-born rogues. They raided Velen and the other borderlands of Temeria.
Olgierd fell hopelessly in love with Iris, a beautiful young woman from a well-off family. Her parents accepted his proposal, and all seemed set for a happy ending. Then misfortune struck the von Everecs. A chain of bad decisions and a few years of poor harvests left the once-wealthy family deep in debt. The Borsodi family bought up that debt and enforced it without mercy, and the von Everecs were ruined. Iris's parents withdrew their approval. They promised their daughter to an Ofieri prince who had come to study in Oxenfurt.
In despair, Olgierd turned to Master Mirror. He soon won back his money, his influence and, above all, Iris. Then he discovered the price of his wishes. His heart was slowly turning to stone. In exchange for his fortune, his good name and his bride, he had promised Gaunter O'Dimm his soul. Professor Shakeslock of the Oxenfurt Academy later helped him look for a way to break the pact.
Story
From their first meeting, Geralt can tell that Olgierd is no ordinary man. His men worship the ground he walks on, but he is not like them. He is educated, loves art and keeps a certain noble code. Geralt also senses something in him that he will later call "a void crying out to be filled." Olgierd mentions a rumor that the monster in the sewers is an enchanted prince. The rumor turns out to be true, and killing the beast lands Geralt on an Ofieri ship bound for the gallows.
After O'Dimm frees him, Geralt returns to the Garin estate and finds it in flames. The manor never belonged to Olgierd. His men took it over and got carried away in their revels. Olgierd has ordered one of them beheaded for murdering the manor's lord. If Geralt steps in to save the man, Olgierd fights him, and Geralt cuts off his head. Olgierd simply puts it back on his neck. If Geralt lets the execution go ahead, the lord's grieving daughter runs Olgierd through with a sword. He calmly explains to her, with the blade still in him, that he did not kill her father. Either way, Geralt learns that Olgierd cannot die.
O'Dimm then appears and explains the strange clause of the pact. He must grant Olgierd three wishes through a proxy, and Geralt will be that proxy. Olgierd is not pleased, but he has no choice. His first wish is for the house of Maximilian Borsodi. His second is for his brother Vlodimir to have the time of his life. Both wishes seem all but impossible.
In Open Sesame!, the "house" turns out to be a golden casket kept in the vault of the Borsodi auction house in Oxenfurt. A will is hidden inside it. Geralt joins a daring robbery of the vault to get it. In Dead Man's Party, Vlodimir proves to be long dead. Geralt summons his ghost, which shares Geralt's body at a wedding and enjoys a wild night. Before leaving, the ghost writes a letter to his brother in blood. The letter convinces Olgierd that the wish was granted.
The third wish, in Scenes From a Marriage, is the violet rose that Olgierd gave his wife the last time he saw her. Olgierd's abandoned manor is haunted by the ghost of Iris von Everec. Geralt enters the world of her memories and faces her fears. Geralt comes out with the rose itself, which ends Iris's spirit for good. Otherwise, he brings a painting of the rose made by Iris herself.
In Whatsoever a Man Soweth..., the wishes are complete, and Olgierd meets O'Dimm and Geralt at the Temple of Lilvani. If Geralt does nothing, O'Dimm collects Olgierd's soul, and his life ends there. Olgierd lived as if there were no tomorrow and loved so strongly that he gave up his own soul for it. If Geralt wagers against O'Dimm and wins, the pact is broken. Olgierd is free, and his heart is restored. He thanks Geralt and gives him his sword, an heirloom of the von Everec family for generations. Then he walks off into the sunset.
Relationships
Vlodimir von Everec was Olgierd's younger brother and partner in raids. Iris von Everec was his wife and the great love of his life. Gaunter O'Dimm holds his soul through their pact. The Borsodis are the family that ruined him.
