Gaunter O'Dimm, also called Master Mirror, is a mysterious figure who looks like a humble traveling merchant. Behind that face hides a demonic being who makes pacts with people and collects their souls. He can stop time and appear out of nowhere. Geralt first meets him at the inn in White Orchard during the quest Lilac and Gooseberries. He later draws Geralt into his pact with Olgierd von Everec.
Lore
Very little about O'Dimm can be known for certain. Burning questions hang over everything he does, and how he does it is never made clear.
O'Dimm grants people's wishes, and every wish carries a price. Olgierd von Everec learns this when his granted wishes slowly turn his heart to stone. Professor Shakeslock of the Oxenfurt Academy once helped Olgierd try to break his pact. The professor learned that O'Dimm has one weakness. He loves a wager, and he can be lured into one. A man who beats him at his own game can defeat him.
Story
In Lilac and Gooseberries, Geralt is searching for Yennefer at the White Orchard inn. A friendly stranger in the inn knows Geralt and Yennefer from Dandelion's ballads. He has heard that a scout at the nearby Nilfgaardian garrison saw her arrive and then ride off. He sends Geralt to the garrison and then vanishes.
That day comes in Evil's Soft First Touches. Geralt takes a contract from Olgierd von Everec to kill a monster in the Oxenfurt sewers. The monster turns out to be an Ofieri prince under a curse, and armed men led by a mage seize Geralt for killing him. Geralt wakes up in chains on a ship bound for Ofier, where he is to be hanged. Then O'Dimm steps out of the shadows and offers help, for a price. He leaves his mark on Geralt's face as the seal of their pact. A terrible storm then breaks, and the ship is wrecked on the rocks.
Geralt meets O'Dimm at midnight at a crossroads beneath the willows. O'Dimm explains his deal with Olgierd. He must grant Olgierd three wishes before he can collect his due. The pact forbids him to grant them himself, so he needs a proxy. Geralt is to be that proxy. At the burning Garin estate, O'Dimm introduces Geralt to Olgierd, and the immortal nobleman names his first two wishes.
O'Dimm keeps turning up, always out of nowhere. In Dead Man's Party, Olgierd asks Geralt to show his brother Vlodimir the time of his life, though Vlodimir has been dead for years. O'Dimm hands Geralt a vial of von Everec blood and teaches him how to summon the ghost. Vlodimir's ghost spends a wedding night in Geralt's body. O'Dimm sits at the wedding too. When midnight strikes, Vlodimir does not want to leave. O'Dimm puts a swift and cruel end to his stay among the living. The ghost's cries of pain haunt Geralt's dreams for months. Later that night, O'Dimm advises Geralt that flowers or a good liqueur might cheer up Shani.
In Whatsoever a Man Soweth..., all three wishes have been granted. O'Dimm comes to the Temple of Lilvani to collect Olgierd's soul. Geralt now chooses how the story ends.
If Geralt stands by and lets the pact run its course, O'Dimm collects his due, and Olgierd dies. In that moment, the mark on Geralt's face fades away. That is the last Geralt ever sees of Master Mirror.
If Geralt has met Professor Shakeslock, he knows how to fight back. He offers O'Dimm a wager for Olgierd's soul. O'Dimm accepts, but only on his own terms. He carries Geralt into a strange, dark world and gives him a riddle to solve. Every mirror Geralt reaches shatters. In the end, Geralt finds O'Dimm in his own reflection on the surface of still water. With the riddle solved, Geralt wins, and the demon is driven from this world. Whether he will return remains unknown. His kind, it is said, always returns.
Relationships
Olgierd von Everec is bound to O'Dimm by their pact. Geralt becomes his proxy against his will, under the mark on his face.
