History

The city is home to the Oxenfurt Academy, founded by Nicodemus de Boot. Its main rival is the Imperial Academy in Nilfgaard.

The academy is proud of its famous students. The bard Dandelion and the doctor Shani both studied there. The academy also rebuilt an old elven aqueduct as an experimental sewage plant, which has a dubious reputation.

Geography

The academy sits in the city. Guards at the Philosophers' Gate watch its entrance, and every visitor must sign a guest book before going in. The city also has a harbor on the river and gates toward Novigrad and the west. Farmland and villages surround it.

Story

In the main quest Family Matters, Geralt comes to Oxenfurt looking for Tamara, the daughter of the Bloody Baron. In Hearts of Stone he meets his old friend Shani in the city. She is now a doctor and a field medic for the Redanian army. The monster contract Contract: The Oxenfurt Drunk takes place in the city.
