Shani is a skilled doctor from Oxenfurt and a fearless field medic for the Redanian army. She is an old and dear friend of Geralt and Dandelion. Geralt runs into her in the Oxenfurt sewers during the quest Evil's Soft First Touches.

Geralt and Dandelion first met Shani years ago, when she was still a lively young student at the Oxenfurt Academy. Since then she has grown into a respected doctor. Geralt and Shani once shared passionate, though brief, feelings for each other. Oxenfurt is her hometown, and she loves rowan, a plant that brings back fond memories of her childhood.

In Evil's Soft First Touches, Geralt enters the Oxenfurt sewers to hunt a monster and finds Shani there. Her work as a field medic has brought her down with a unit of soldiers. They need a sample of the venom the monster spits. Geralt agrees to help her with the task. He promises to visit her once his hunt is over, and he keeps that promise, though only after a long detour.

In Dead Man's Party, Geralt needs to find the crypt of the von Everec family. Shani, a diligent student, has heard of the family and owns a book that shows where their crypt lies. She goes there with Geralt and brings the censer he needs for the Blood Summoning. The ritual calls up the ghost of Vlodimir von Everec, who takes over Geralt's body for the night.

That night, Shani attends the wedding of Aldona, her friend from the Academy, with Geralt and the ghost as her escort. The unusual company does not spoil her fun. She throws herself into the festivities with the carefree joy of her younger years. Vlodimir showers her with burning declarations of love and sweeps her off her feet. Shani catches the garland during the capping ceremony. When the hour comes for Vlodimir to return to the world of the dead, she sighs with relief, since she can now spend time alone with Geralt.

In A Midnight Clear, Shani sits alone and downcast as the wedding goes on. If Geralt brings her a branch of rowan blossoms, she weaves it into her hair, delighted. The two take a long walk by the river and row out in a boat. The pleasant evening becomes a night of passion and ends in a golden dawn on the shore of a lake. In the morning, Shani grows thoughtful. She parts from Geralt, saying she needs to think about what has happened. If Geralt leaves her to her mood, the evening ends there.

Shani cannot stay long in Oxenfurt. As long as the war lasts, she belongs to the Redanian army, and her commander sends her to Kaedwen, on the eastern front. Before she leaves, in Whatsoever a Man Soweth..., she tells Geralt about Professor Shakeslock, who may be able to help against Gaunter O'Dimm. She also helps Geralt get into the Academy grounds to speak with him. Geralt thanks his friend, and they part, hoping to meet again soon.
