Whispess is one of the three Crones of Crookback Bog in Velen. The swamp folk claim she is the oldest of the three sisters. The Crones first deal with Geralt in Crookback Bog during the quest Ladies of the Wood. Whispess is later fought as a boss on Bald Mountain.
Lore
The Crones of Velen are truly ancient. They have been around since the reign of the first human kings, and maybe since the coming of the elves.
The legends of the swamp folk say Whispess is the oldest of the three. People only whisper these legends. If they speak too loudly, the Crone hears them. Whispess demands human ears as tribute. She hangs the ears from trees and uses old magic to hear through them. In this way she hears everything that happens in the swamp.
Story
Ciri passed through Crookback Bog before Geralt came to Velen. She quarrelled with the Crones there and was lucky to escape them alive. Geralt follows her trail into the swamp. The Crones agree to tell him what they know of Ciri, but only after he does a task for them. Their price for that task is the ear of a village elder.
Ciri later goes after the Crones on Bald Mountain. Whispess faces her there, and old magic cannot save her from Ciri's wrath. Ciri kills her.
Relationships
Whispess is the sister of Brewess and Weavess. Brewess dies beside her on Bald Mountain, while Weavess escapes.
