History

Orphaned and unwanted children from nearby villages are sent to the orphanage. The Crones eat the children.

In the main quest Ladies of the Wood, the search for Ciri leads into the bog. A strange young creature named Johnny lives in a burrow there and has lost his voice. The voice sits in a sealed bottle in a harpy nest on a cliff. Once Johnny has it back, he leads the way to the Crones.

Ciri had passed through the bog before and fallen into the hands of the Crones. Her flight from them is told in Ciri's Story: Fleeing the Bog.

In the secondary quest Return to Crookback Bog, the Bloody Baron marches into the swamp. He means to free his wife Anna from the Crones.
