Comeback Kid turns a bad situation into a fast recovery. The lower V's health falls, the quicker it comes back, so the perk is at its weakest when nothing is wrong and at its strongest when the fight has nearly been lost. It belongs to the health regeneration branch of the Body tree. Builds that fight at close range take it early.
Effect
The rate is tied to the share of health that is missing. At full health there is no bonus to speak of. Near the bottom of the bar the regeneration is running at several times its normal pace.
That shape rewards a particular way of playing. A build that breaks off at the first hit never sees the bonus, while one that stays in cover for a moment at low health recovers most of the bar without touching an item. It does nothing on its own, because the regeneration it speeds up has to be unlocked first.
How to Unlock Comeback Kid
It sits behind the Rookie gate of the Body tree and opens with the first points spent there. Painkiller comes before it, as the perk that allows health to return during a fight at all.
Perk Tree
Comeback Kid is bought from Painkiller in the Body tree.
| Name | Image | Tier | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Painkiller | Rookie (4) | Unlocks slow Health Regen in combat. |
Character Builds
It suits a Body build that fights at the bottom of its health bar by choice, which the upper tree encourages with critical hits and mitigation at low stamina and low health.
Buy it early, with the rest of the healing branch, and pair it with an armour heavy cyberware loadout from the integumentary system. The combination means the build loses health slowly and regains it quickest when it is nearly gone, which is a very hard shape to kill. Health items then stay in reserve for the fights that go badly.
Notes
Health items recharge on a timer, so anything that saves one is worth more than it looks. Comeback Kid is the pick that most often removes the need for one.
It sits beside Army Of One and Speed Junkie, and the three read different things, so they rarely overlap.
