Night City is a metropolis on the west coast of the former United States, surrounded by the dry Badlands. It began as the dream of the industrialist Richard Night. As the world of the late twentieth century fell into chaos, he imagined a modern city free of crime, poverty and corruption. Arasaka, EBM and Petrochem put money into his vision, and the city became a magnet for young idealists and anyone chasing a dream. Richard Night was killed by assassins, and the dream soured, but the city's legend lives on. Today it has everything. Megacorporations raise monumental towers, stars live in luxury villas, and in the lawless neighbourhoods gangs wage war every day. Mercs, rockers, junkies, the homeless and cyberpsychos share the same streets, alleys and markets, in the shadow of huge megabuildings. The corporations hold the real power, and the underfunded NCPD rarely keeps the peace. The districts run from the gang ruled streets of Watson in the north to the abandoned resort of Pacifica in the south, with the corporate towers of City Center in the middle. Phantom Liberty adds Dogtown, a walled off part of Pacifica. Every location page on this wiki belongs to one of these regions.

Regions

Watson is the poor north, home to Little China, Kabuki and the old factories of Northside. Westbrook is the wealthy east, with the nightlife of Japantown and the villas of North Oak. City Center is the corporate core around Arasaka Tower. Heywood is the crowded middle of the city, from the government district of the Glen to the slums of Vista del Rey. Santo Domingo is the industrial south east, and Pacifica the lawless south west.

Outside the city lie the Badlands: oil fields, landfills, protein farms and ghost towns, crossed by nomad clans and raiders.
