Factions

Night City is a free city with no single power in charge. Richard Night founded it as a city free from crime, poverty and corruption, with Arasaka and other corporations as his partners, but that dream did not last. Today its streets are split between gangs, nomad families, a weak police force and the megacorporations that own most of what is worth owning. Every job in the city sooner or later runs into one of them.

Gangs

Each gang holds its own part of the city. The Tyger Claws rule Japantown and their nightlife, the Valentinos rule the barrios of Heywood, Maelstrom rules the factories of Northside and the Voodoo Boys rule Pacifica. 6th Street, founded by war veterans, runs Santo Domingo, and in Dogtown BARGHEST is both the army and the law. Smaller gangs such as the Mox and the Animals have no fixed turf, and the Scavengers prey on everyone.

The gangs fill the gap the police leave behind. Some, like the Valentinos and the Mox, protect their own people like a family. Others sell drugs, bodies or protection to anyone who pays. Their wars, such as the long fight between the Valentinos and 6th Street, make whole districts dangerous.

Faction Categories

Nomads

Outside the city, nomad families live on the road in camps, trucks and trailers. The first nomads were farmers driven from their land by disasters, wars and the corporations. They are divided into seven great nations, such as the Aldecaldos, the Jodes and the Snake Nation, and each nation into clans and families. The Aldecaldos make a hard living in the Badlands, while the outcast Wraiths, Raffen Shiv thrown out of their families, raid anyone they can catch.

Police and Corporations

The NCPD is underfunded, privately owned and spread thin, and MaxTac is called in when a cyberpsycho goes over the edge. Above them all stand the corporations. Arasaka and Militech are old rivals whose war once destroyed the heart of the city, and whose struggle shaped the Unification War. Biotechnica, Kang Tao, Zetatech and Trauma Team each own a piece of everyday life, from the fuel in every car to the AVs in the sky.
