Characters

The people of Night City drive every story in the game, from the heist on Konpeki Plaza to the last raid on Arasaka Tower. Some of them walk beside V for the whole journey, others hand out work, fix broken bodies or stand in the way. Each character page tells their story, where to find them and the jobs they are part of.

The Story

The main story follows V after the Relic, a biochip carrying the mind of the rockerboy Johnny Silverhand, ends up in V's head. Jackie Welles is V's partner in the first act, and the hunt for a cure brings in Goro Takemura, Judy Álvarez, Panam Palmer, Rogue and the Arasaka family. In Phantom Liberty, Songbird, Solomon Reed and Kurt Hansen take the stage in Dogtown.

Mercs

Mercs are the people V works among. When someone has a problem they would rather keep from the police and from their own corporation, they hire a merc. The job might be a shipment that has to vanish, a person who knows too much, or a rival who has become a nuisance. Most mercs work through fixers, who put together a team with the right skills, so the client never has to meet the people doing the work.

Most mercs start on the street, taking whatever comes their way until a fixer notices them. Only a few become legends, such as Morgan Blackhand.

Solos, Netrunners and Techies

Solos are mercs who live by their fighting skills. They work as soldiers, bodyguards and hired muscle for armies, security firms, gangs and even the police, though most prefer short jobs. A solo has to keep buying better weapons and cyberware to stay ahead, and that race can cross a line from which there is no return. According to MaxTac, solos make up the largest group of confirmed cyberpsychos.

Netrunners know computer systems inside out and can write or change deadly viruses. With a deck in hand, a netrunner is as dangerous as a heavily armed soldier. Many work for themselves, while every corporation keeps an army of them to guard its data. Netrunners once roamed a global network, until the great runner Rache Bartmoss wrecked it. Cyberspace is now a land of rogue programs, sealed off behind the Blackwall.

Techies see a work of art where others see scrap metal. They can cut the power to a building, send a lift to any floor, rewire an alarm or steer a combat robot from a safe distance. Braindance editing is techie work too. Judy Álvarez is one of the best in the game.

Work and Chrome

Fixers hand out the gigs of each district, and most of them have their own office or bar where they can be found. Ripperdocs sell and fit cyberware in clinics across the city, from back alley shops in Watson to the clinic under the stadium in Dogtown. Their pages carry a map of where they work.

Romance

Judy Álvarez, Panam Palmer, Kerry Eurodyne and River Ward can each become V's partner, depending on V's body and voice, and Meredith Stout offers a single night. Their pages explain which side jobs lead to the romance.
