Fortified is a lore quest in Ferndale, a ruined village in the north of the Springlands. When the Scavengers came, one villager stayed behind to defend the family house and wrote a defiant note, "I Will Defend My House!". It mentions a chest hidden under the stairs. The chest is still there, behind a bookcase on the ground floor, and holds a gold chest's worth of loot and 75 XP.
Walkthrough
The chest is easy to walk past, because a bookcase hides it:
- Travel to Ferndale in the northern Springlands.
- Enter the large house in the village and read the note "I Will Defend My House!" on the table on the top floor. This starts the quest.
- Go back down to the ground floor and look under the stairs.
- Destroy the bookcase there with a weapon or a pickaxe.
- Open the gold chest hidden behind it to complete the quest.
Ferndale's notice board also carries two of Balthazar's warnings about the Shroud and the Elixir. The other houses hold a few wooden chests, including one in the underground room of the ruined building in the south.
