Ferndale is a ruined village in the north of the Springlands, now overrun by rats. Its notice board still carries Balthazar's warnings about the Shroud and the Elixir. One villager stayed to defend the family house when the Scavengers came. The villager hid the family treasure, and the note left behind starts the lore quest Fortified. That treasure is a gold chest behind a bookcase in the large house.
Where to Find Ferndale - Map Location
Ferndale lies in the north of the Springlands. The Elixir Well west of Ferndale sits a short way to the north-west, in the Shroud. A Flame Shrine stands just south-east of the village. Moth's Grove is to the east and Wescott to the north.

Quests
Fortified starts by reading "I Will Defend My House!". Its writer mentions a chest hidden below the stairs of the house. The quest asks players to find it, and it pays a gold chest.

Chests
The gold chest stands on the ground floor of the large house, behind a bookcase. Destroy the bookcase to reach it. Two wooden chests sit in the ruined building in the south of the village. One is upstairs and one is in its underground room.

Hidden Chests
The gold chest of Ferndale stands behind a bookcase in the large house. The bookcase has to be destroyed first.

- Enter the large house.
- Find the bookcase on the ground floor.
- Destroy the bookcase.
- Open the gold chest behind it.
Lore Pages
Two pages of Balthazar's set A Cry for Help hang on the bulletin board. "Protection Against the Shroud" tells villagers to keep out of valleys and to avoid breathing the Shroud. It warns them to stay clear of the Elixir. In "Ointments", he promises more remedies from his tower and begs people to stop using the addictive Elixir. "I Will Defend My House!" lies on a table on the top floor of the large house. Its writer saw the smoke on the horizon and chose to stay while others fled.
