Staves And Spells is an early quest from the Alchemist, Balthazar, and the first step into magic. Balthazar wants to make a Spiritual Cane, a plain staff powered by the spirit of whoever holds it. Staves are strong magic weapons that cast with mana. They take spell charges, channels or eternal spells as their ammunition. The cane needs Shroud Wood, a wood that grows only under the Shroud, so the quest means a short trip into the fog. The finished cane is the reward, and Balthazar can upgrade it later.

This quest is short and fits the opening hours, as soon as the Alchemist is settled in the base.

1. Speak to the Alchemist about staves.
2. Enter the Shroud and gather 3 Shroud Wood from the trees there.
3. Collect 4 Bonemeal and 2 Resin.
4. Craft the Spiritual Cane with the Alchemist to finish the quest.

A staff only casts with spell charges equipped beside it, and every cast uses mana. The recipe for the cane also unlocks once the name of Shroud Wood is learned.
