Soul Siphon is the second perk of the soul line in the Enchanting tree in Skyrim. It requires skill level 40 and Soul Squeezer, and death blows against creatures recharge the weapon with five per cent of the victim's soul.

Three Limits Worth Knowing

The perk is narrower than it reads, and all three restrictions catch people out.

• It works on **creatures only**. Killing a person, meaning any humanoid NPC, does nothing.
• It does not apply to kills made with a **staff**.
• It is a death blow, so chip damage from an enchantment does not trigger it; the killing hit must come from the weapon itself.

Why It Still Earns Its Point

Within those limits it removes most of the need to carry soul gems at all. A character clearing draugr, falmer or wildlife recharges continuously and never sees the insufficient charge message, which is the whole reason enchanted weapons get left in a chest.

Paired with Soul Squeezer it makes an enchanted weapon close to self-sustaining in normal play. Neither perk leads to Extra Effect, so this branch is taken for comfort rather than to reach anything.
